The Green Hornet animated series in the works from Kevin Smith!

According to Deadline, Kevin Smith (ClerksJay and Silent Bob) and kids content producer WildBrain (Peanuts, Teletubbies, Inspector Gadget) are in the process of developing a brand new animated series, centered on George W. Trendie and Fran Striker’s classic 1930s superhero The Green Hornet. They’re currently planning to shop the project to networks and streaming services.

“It’s an honor to escort the legendary Green Hornet and Kato into their very own animated series for the first time in the rich history of these iconic pop culture characters,” Smith said in a statement. “We’ll be telling a tale of two Hornets – past and future – that spans generations and draws inspiration from a lifetime spent watching classic cartoons and amazing animation like ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ ‘Heavy Metal,’ and ‘Super Friends.’ I can’t believe WildBrain gave me this job and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity to extend my childhood a little longer.”

The Green Hornet animated series is being created for a family audience that will be set in contemporary times. It will follow the adventures of a re-imagined Green Hornet and Kato – now the grown son of the original Green Hornet and the daughter of the original Kato – as they partner to battle crime in Century City. It will also feature the Green Hornet’s ultra-high-tech car, Black Beauty.

“We’re thrilled to embark on a new animated Green Hornet series with Kevin, who has set up an incredibly rich world with a cast of  amazing characters – especially Kato, who is no longer just a sidekick, but is now a strong female partner to the Green Hornet. With his ingenious talent and passion for superheroes and classic franchises, Kevin is the perfect creator to update the Green Hornet. We’re excited to share the new Green Hornet and Kato with audiences worldwide.” WildBrain’s EVP Content and Current Series, Stephanie Betts said.

Interestingly, Kevin Smith was originally attached to write a screenplay for Miramax’s previously planned live-action Green Hornet film which was then cancelled. However, he later decided to release his unused screenplay through a comic book series instead, with Dynamite Entertainment publishing it from 2010 up until 2013.

The characters were first created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker in 1936. The Green Hornet was one of early radio’s most popular adventure shows, predating Superman, before being turned into 1940s movie serials from Universal. A 1966 TV series, distributed by 20th Century Fox TV, followed, introducing Bruce Lee (Kato) to the United States. The story centered around Britt Reid owner/publisher of The Daily Sentinel. Armed with knowledge from his sources, cool weapons, a supercar known as The Black Beauty, and teaming with his trusty aide Kato, Reid became The Green Hornet, a vigilante crime fighter wanted by the police and feared by the criminal world.

After Miramax failed to develop the live-action film adaptation during the 1990s, Sony Pictures revived the project in 2008 with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg set as the new writers and executive producers. In 2011, the action-comedy led by Rogen and Jay Chou was released and had grossed over $200 million at the worldwide box office.

Luca: Pixar announces new Italy-set animated film for 2021

Walt Disney Studios and Pixar have announced their newest animated feature titled Luca, hailing from Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Enrico Casarosa, who is known for his work on the 2011 animated short La Luna. The new Pixar film is scheduled to make its debut in the summer of 2021. This announcement comes ahead of the upcoming theatrical release of their Jamie Foxx-led animated film Soul on November 20.

Set in Italy, the animated film is being described as a coming-of-age adventure that will tell the story of a young boy named Luca as he experiences an unforgettable summer with his newfound best friend in a seaside town on the Italian Riviera. But all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.

“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca,” Casarosa said in a statement. (via Variety) “So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”

Ron Howard Confirms Lucasfilm Isn’t Developing a Solo Sequel

Ron Howard Confirms Lucasfilm Isn’t Developing a Solo Sequel

Ron Howard confirms that Lucasfilm isn’t developing a Solo: A Star Wars Story sequel

Even though Solo: A Star Wars Story probably doesn’t rank highly on anyone’s list of the best Star Wars films, the movie ended on a pretty big cliffhanger when it was released in 2018. So it makes sense that some fans are hoping to get a sequel, if only to tie up loose ends. Over the last two years, rumors about Lucasfilm’s plans for Alden Ehrenreich’s young Han Solo have continued to swirl online. But now, a new update has come courtesy of director Ron Howard, and it’s not very reassuring.

Howard recently spoke to Radio Andy on Sirius XM (via ComicBook.com) about the various projects he’s currently working on. Sadly, his upcoming slate doesn’t include a Solo follow-up.

“Well, there’s no sequel planned now,” said Howard. “And it’s amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit, which is not what you’d expect. But that’s been an odd, strange journey for that movie.”

RELATED: POLL RESULTS: How Should Solo Return to the Star Wars Universe?

“Strange” doesn’t even begin to describe Solo’s evolution from concept to screen. Lucasfilm originally hired Phil Lord and Chris Miller to direct the movie in 2015 and they began shooting in 2017. However, the studio fired them a mere five months into production due to creative differences. Howard subsequently came onboard to replace them, and he allegedly re-shot at least 70% of the film.

Howard’s latest comments follow rumors that began making the rounds last week about how Lucasfilm was considering a new Disney+ series headlined by Donald Glover’s young Lando Calrissian. Unfortunately, a show like this probably won’t be materializing anytime soon. Solo co-writer Jon Kasdan also weighed in on the chances of a sequel back in March, but his outlook was similarly bleak. Regardless, Howard and Kasdan aren’t completely severing their relationship with the House of Mouse. During the same interview with Radio Andy, Howard claimed that their long-gestating Willow sequel series is in “active development” at Disney+.

CS Soapbox: Was Comic-Con@Home a Bust?

CS Soapbox: Was Comic-Con@Home a Bust?

CS Soapbox: Was Comic-Con@Home a Bust?

CS Soapbox: Was Comic-Con@Home a Bust?

Was this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, reinvented as Comic-Con@Home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a bust? Comic-Con@Home attempted to make up for the lack of an in-person experience with an Online Exhibit Hall and virtual panels. However, the pitfalls of this (along with the absence of some of the biggest titles/names in entertainment) may have proven too arduous for the annual event to overcome. Although we’re all spending a lot of time online, Comic-Con@Home for the most part was still largely without its fans.

This was perhaps the biggest problem faced by last weekend’s virtual event (July 22-26). San Diego Comic-Con isn’t just about the announcements and photo ops, it’s about the cosplay and the comradery—an amalgamation of source materiel obsessives. Without that Comic-Con is at risk of being just another YouTube video. None of this year’s panels had any kind of fan interaction. Panels for shows like The Walking Dead were pre-recorded and the comment sections turned off. How can a fan event—with the sole purpose of bringing creatives and fans together—succeed without its key demographic (us)?

RELATED: Some Comic-Con@Home Elements To Continue After Conclusion

According to social media analytics via Listen First, tweets mentioning Comic-Con were down an average of 95% since 2019 (93,681 versus 1,719,000). Of the 10 TV event panels tweets were down 95%, and of the 5 movie panels tweets were down 99%. This makes sense, as nothing matches the enthusiasm of fans roaming Hall H with their phones. That said, the virtual panels on YouTube averaged 15,000 views—which is much better than panels in Hall H usually do on the service. However, Comic-Con@Home is a virtual experience so it should do better.

The fact that Marvel Studios (minus the trailer for Disney+’s documentary, Marvel’s 616), Lucasfilm, and DC Films (the event’s biggest annual draws) making any major virtual appearances/announcements hurt Comic-Con@Home. The biggest panels were those concerning The Walking Dead (most YouTube views), Star Trek Universe, The New MutantsBill & Ted Face the Music, and a Constantine reunion (because well, Keanu Reeves). The biggest content on the movie side of things was arguably the latest New Mutants trailer and the announcement that George Carlin will be appearing in Bill & Ted Face the Music when it releases on video on demand and in select theaters September 1.

On the TV side of things, The Walking Dead universe will be returning in October with the long-awaited season 10 finale of its flagship series, a Fear The Walking Dead premiere, and a brand new series, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Amazon’s panel for The Boys brought with it a new clip and the news that the series has already been renewed for a third season. Aside from a looming rumor about a potential Disney+ series starring Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian (Solo: A Star Wars Story), the biggest entertainment buzz from last weekend may have come from another event entirely.

RELATED: Watch The Walking Dead: World Beyond Comic-Con Trailer!

On Saturday, fans hosted an independent convention called JusticeCon, covering Zack Snyder’s upcoming cut of Justice League. During the event—which ran concurrently with Comic-Con@Home—the director spent around an hour interacting with the fans who made #ReleaseTheSnydercut possible. That said, the panel, during which Snyder premiered a new clip featuring a black-suited Superman, logged over 260,000 views on YouTube in less than 48 hours. JusticeCon owes its success to its focus on fan interaction. Its spiked engagement certainly bodes well for DC Fandome in late August where Snyder promises more announcements/content regarding his Justice League.

It’s worth noting that Comic-Con@Home happened pretty quickly. Its organizers scrounging up everything and anything they could to make Comic-Con 2020 an acceptable virtual experience. While it’s easy to be cynical about virtual events and a lack of fan interaction when we crave a traditional experience, virtual reunions, surprise announcements and unconfirmed rumors still have their place online. And, since there’s really no paradigm for that (nor should there ever be), Comic-Con@Home did the best it could. Events like JusticeCon, where the reigns are essentially handed over to the demographic, will most likely set the standard for virtual conventions moving forward.

Based on a number of additional interviews involving key principals which were conducted and compiled for over a year, The Comey Rule is an immersive, behind-the-headlines account of the historically turbulent events surrounding the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath, which divided a nation. It is not a biopic of one man, but is instead the story of two powerful figures, Comey and Trump, whose strikingly different personalities, ethics and loyalties put them on a collision course.

Pick up a copy of the book here!

The limited series adaptation will take us on an insider’s journey down the corridors of power, where decision-makers struggle to apply old norms to a dramatic new paradigm in the face of Russia’s deep and unprecedented penetration into American politics, with our nation’s rule of law hanging in the balance. Each character’s actions in these historic months made the careers of some, destroyed the careers of others and helped shape the incendiary political landscape we live in today.

The first part of The Comey Rule will examine the earliest days of the Russia investigation, the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and their impact on Election Night 2016, when Donald Trump stunned the world and was elected president. While part two is a virtual day-by-day account of the tempestuous relationship between Comey and Trump and the intense and chaotic first months of the Trump presidency – where allies became enemies, enemies became friends and truth depended on what side you were on.

Cursed Season 1 Episode 3 and Episode 4 Recap

Cursed Season 1 Episode 3 and Episode 4

Cursed Season 1 Episode 3 and Episode 4 recap

In the previous episodes of Netflix’s Cursed, the Red Paladins sacked Dewdenn, and Nimue escaped with a sword for Merlin. In Cursed Season 1 Episode 3, Nimue woke up at Yvoire Abbey with Arthur and the sword gone, and in Cursed Season 1 Episode 4, a Fey smuggler helped her go to Gramaire to get the sword back.

With Honor

When Arthur’s father died, Arthur inherited his debts. While he worked it off, his sister, Morgana, was sent to live in Yvoire Abbey. Arthur had taken the sword from Nimue to gain Sir Ector’s sponsorship for the tournament. His aunt, Marion, was Sir Ector’s wife, and they had lost their son, Charlie, in battle. Sir Ector was reluctant because of Arthur’s past with thieves and mercenaries. Arthur lied about the sword, saying he’d received it as a reward for saving a girl from robbers. Ector agreed to sponsor him.

Bors came across Arthur and Ector and exposed Arthur’s lie. In defense of Ector, Arthur killed one of Bors’ men. He was arrested, and the Paladins captured him and the sword.

Yvoire Abbey

Nimue found herself in an abbey without the sword and Arthur missing. The abbey housed Red Paladins, and Sister Igraine and her superior, Sister Nora, helped to disguise her as one of them. The Paladins brought in the man Nimue strung up in a tree with her magic. If he died in their care, they would hold the Sisters responsible. Nimue helped Igraine save him with her Fey treatments. She also secretly burned several of Carden’s documents.

Carden had the Sisters rounded up for questioning. Wanting to be like the Paladins, Sister Iris told them about Nimue’s arrival and held Sister Nora responsible. Igraine revealed to Nimue that she was Arthur’s sister, Morgana and helped her escape. Afterwards, Carden carted off Nora for her punishment. Morgana left the abbey and asked her lover, Celia to come with her. Celia refused.

The Red Lake

Cursed Season 1 Episode 3 and Episode 4

Dizier, a leather goods merchant, found Nimue. He was part of an underground network of caravans to help Fey to safety, and Morgana had created it. They traveled with a Fey family and Dizier’s wife, Clothilde. Dizier told Nimue that they were going to a secret Fey refuge. She convinced him to take her to Gramaire.

In Gramaire, Nimue caught up to Arthur, who had escaped the Paladins on the road. Back on the road, they found Dizier and everyone in the cart, aside from the little Fey girl, murdered. Nimue found the sword in the Paladins’ cart stopped by a lake where they bathed. Nimue killed them all. She and Arthur found the Fey girl and took her to the Fey refuge.

Fey Fire

Cursed Season 1 Episode 3 and Episode 4

Merlin visited Lord Rugen. He told them about the Sword of Power, saying he wanted Rugen to have it. After presenting Rugen an offering, Merlin saw the Fey Fire that he was after. He convinced Rugen he was drunk to take some Fey Fire. He escaped on the Widow’s horse.

Pym turned up alive in a port near Dewdenn. Aaron brought her home, intending to make her his wife. In the village, she watched the Paladins burn a woman, claiming her to be the Wolf Blood Witch. While cleaning up fish guts on the dock, Pym met Dof, a raider, and stowed away on his ship.
