Fate: The Winx Saga received mixed reviews after its January 2021 release, so will Netflix move forward with season 2? Based on the animated series Winx Club, the fantasy adaptation takes place at Alfea College, an otherworldly institution where female fairies and male specialists develop their skills. Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 focuses on an impending war with baddies known as the Burned Ones.
Abigail Cowen (Stranger Things) stars in Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 as a fire fairy named Bloom. She's a human who was recruited by the headmistress, Farah Dowling (Eve Best), who has good intentions for her students but still tells a few lies about the school's past. Incidentally, much of the drama in Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 stems not from the Burned Ones subplot, but rather from revelations about Abigail's background. The Netflix show co-stars Hannah van der Westhuysen, Elisha Applebaum, Precious Mustapha, Eliot Salt, and Sadie Soverall as the main fairies.
The Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 finale wraps up numerous points of conflict while teasing an entirely new dynamic for season 2. There's still plenty to learn about Bloom's past, but the first six episodes provide clarity about Headmistress Dowling and her connection to a mysterious woman named Rosalind (Lesley Sharp). The male cast members also receive an opportunity to shine, with Sam (Jacob Dudman) nearly exiting the narrative for good, and Sky (Danny Griffin) receiving some shocking news about his family. Here's everything we expect for The Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 on Netflix.
Netflix hasn't yet greenlit Fate: The Winx Saga season 2. The streaming service usually waits three to six weeks to make official renewal announcements, so fans will presumably have an answer by early March 2021. Critics haven't been thrilled with the first six episodes so far, but the series may end up being a streaming hit if the stories resonate with the core demographic of young adult viewers.
Assuming that Netflix orders Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 sometime before spring 2021, production could commence later in the year. Whereas most teen drama series have 10 full episodes, this particular series has a modest scope of production with only six episodes in season 1. As of now, it seems likely that a Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 would release in January 2022.
Bloom and company defeat some of the Burned Ones in the Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 finale, and it's revealed that the forest baddies were never really a huge threat at all. As it turns out, Rosalind had been plotting all along and needed to test out Bloom's skills, via a select group of Burned Ones, for a future war against said Burned Ones (a "shit-ton" more, according to the new Headmistress). Rosalind eventually kills Dowling via a nasty neck snap, and assumes control at Alfea College. Meanwhile, Queen Luna (Stella's mother) shows up and reveals that Sky's father, a famous war hero, never actually died, and has been training Beatrix.
Now that Bloom has informed her adoptive parents about her powers, she can more confidently move forward with her life as a rather powerful fairy in Fate: The Winx Saga season 2. In fact, it's her strength alone that the Burned Ones fear the most. Moving forward, new episodes will likely explore the revised power dynamics at Alfea College, and whether or not the fairies and specialists will rebel against Headmistress Rosalind. Expect Sky to emerge as a prominent character in Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 on Netflix, as he and Bloom could potentially lead a mini-revolution against the adults who misled them.
