Deadpool Owns The One Sword That Can Kill Wolverine | Screen Rant

Every time Wolverine and Deadpool have often fought in the main Marvel universe, Wolverine came out on top. It's no wonder,  as Logan is smarter, stronger, and more resilient than Wade. However, one alternate universe saw the Merc with a Mouth go to barbaric lengths to permanently kill Wolverine, and he was able to succeed all thanks to a special sword.

In 2012's Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dalibor Talajic, a supervillain breaks Deadpool's already shattered mind, convincing him to go on a rampage throughout the Marvel Universe. After killing Spider-Man, the Avengers decide that something needs to be done about him. While Wolverine and the other Avengers plan, Deadpool causes an explosion that kills every Avenger except for Wolverine. Wade makes his way to the X-Men and dismantles them with little resistance, that is until a regenerated Wolverine comes looking for revenge.

First, Wolverine finds Marvel's Riddler, Arcade chained up. The villain shutters, revealing that all of the traps Deadpool has been using to kill the various heroes have been designed by him. Feeling nothing but rage, Logan puts the villain out of his misery. That's when he smells burning flesh. Tracking the scent, Wolverine finds a horrific sight. Deadpool chained up Logan's children, X-23 and Daken, and has been burning them alive, only letting them rest long enough for their healing factor to keep them on the edge of life. Furious, Wolverine charges and tells Deadpool that his massacre is at its end. Though Wolverine's fury is often an asset, here it's made him sloppy. Deadpool informs the last surviving X-Man that his new katana is made of Carbonadium, an unstable metal that disrupts healing factors. He stabs Wolverine straight through the stomach, killing Logan once and for all.

Though Wolverine is easily one of Marvel's most popular heroes, his weakness to Carbonadium is more than a little obscure. The metal is primarily used by the 90s X-Men villain Omega Red, who has Doc Ock-like tentacles made out of the metal that shoots out of his hands. Omega Red recently used them to freeze Wolverine in a lake, though he was able to survive that and come back. It has also been used by Dock Ock himself and Moon Knight. Villains have even fashioned the alloy into bullets for the specific purpose of killing people like Wolverine and Daken. Despite these uses though, only Deadpool has ever used it to permanently kill Wolverine.

One of the benefits of the long history of comic universes is that there are so many small details which writers and artists throw-in without a second thought. With how many people hate characters with healing factors like Wolverine and Deadpool, there's no reason Carbonadium shouldn't be in every X-Men villain's arsenal. Though all of this happens in an alternate universe, it's tempting to wonder whether Carbonadium could tip the scales of a Deadpool and Wolverine fight in the main Marvel Universe.
