Lucifer: 5 Reasons Lucifer & Chloe Are The Best Couple (& 5 They Should Break Up)

Although marketed as a dark fantasy crime series, Lucifer is mainly about the love story between the titular character and Chloe Decker. Despite Lucifer Morningstar’s status as the devil, Chloe has fallen in true love with him, which Lucifer has reciprocated wholeheartedly.

The series has largely banked on this pairing to entertain fans, with plenty of drama coming as a result. All in all, Lucifer and Chloe are a match made in Heaven, and not just because God intended it as such. However, the two also have legitimate problems, and it would make sense if they parted ways due to these reasons.

10 Break Up: Their Relationship Is Based On Conflict

Lucifer and Chloe were brought together by conflict when they stumbled on a case that involved the two of them. Since then, their dynamic has been based around things being in a state of dissension and acrimony. Without this, the two haven’t known how to be around one another.

Taking the conflict out of the relationship essentially ruins their dynamic, meaning they need it to function. However, that’s not a healthy way to go about it, and if a couple can’t be happy when things aren’t in constant flux, it’s better to walk away from the other.

9 Best: They Balance Each Other Out

One of the ways the live-action Lucifer is better than the comic book version is his willingness to change. This has only been possible due to Chloe’s influence, following which Lucifer has matured into caring for other people and not just his own desires.

Chloe needed Lucifer just as much, as she used to be no-nonsense and far too involved in her job to spare a thought for creating meaningful relationships and friendships that she eventually got through Lucifer. The two are a complete pair since they fill the gaps in the personality of their partner, thereby bringing that sense of fulfillment to their lives.

8 Break Up: They're Never Sure About Their Feelings

For the first four seasons, Lucifer and Chloe were constantly playing see-saw with their feelings, as they claimed they didn’t want to be together before changing their mind completely. Even after becoming a couple, the two have remained at odds over this matter by being unsure if their love is true.

This has led to needless drama over their relationship, especially since they factually know that they are in love since Chloe was proven to be the first person Lucifer ever truly fell for. Still, their continuous heartbreak is an indication that they just don’t know if they should be together or not.

7 Best: They're The Couple Who's Worked On Their Relationship

Despite the many hurdles Lucifer and Chloe have faced, they do deserve credit for actually facing these problems. Others like Amenadiel and Linda, Eve and Maze, and pretty much everyone else have seen their romances peter out when they could’ve easily been salvaged.

Lucifer and Chloe have taken steps to make their relationship work, such as Lucifer seeking therapy to learn how to be deserving of Chloe and the latter going so far as to quit her job to support Lucifer when he decided to become the new God. For all their problems, this couple does try to make sense of where they stand.

6 Break Up: They Don't Fully Commit

Lucifer and Chloe have made grand declarations of love plenty of times, but have taken a U-turn over decisions soon after. Even after Chloe decided to retire to support Lucifer as the new God, she started having second thoughts that he encouraged since the two weren’t sure if they were committed to that extent.

Lucifer didn’t tell Chloe he loved her due to his fear that he would mess things up afterward, proving he wasn’t as invested in their relationship despite all the changes in his character. The pair does come around eventually, but there’s so much trial and error here that it sounds better to part ways than be so wishy-washy.

5 Best: The Two Are Always Honest With Each Other

Their extreme honesty has no doubt hurt each other's feelings on several occasions, but Lucifer and Chloe can’t be accused of leading the other astray. Even when they’re unsure of their relationship, the two have said as much to one another without beating around the bush.

This is actually a positive way to go about it, seeing as neither party is left feeling confused over their partner’s intentions. This also means that the times where they are on the same page, their romance is far sweeter since they share the same sentiments.

4 Break Up: Others Get Into Danger Because Of Them

This has more to do with people around Lucifer and Chloe than they themselves, but the collateral damage has been pretty massive. After all, Dan died due to Michael’s intention to have Chloe killed to antagonize Lucifer, so an innocent man perished because of this romance.

Eve also inadvertently brought the demons to Earth after her jealousy of Chloe’s relationship with Lucifer turned her into a villain, while Cain’s killing of Charlotte happened after Chloe chose Lucifer over him. In order to keep others safe, it would make sense for Lucifer and Chloe to separate.

3 Best: Their Chemistry Is Undeniable

No pair has gotten better results than this one, with the two solving crimes most others wouldn’t be able to. One of the reasons for it is the chemistry between Lucifer and Chloe, as their partnership is such that they can spot the bad guys by bouncing around ideas despite differing mentalities.

Their romance is their most major advantage, though, as their attraction stemmed from the respect they had for one another for their keen sense for justice. There’s no double that Lucifer and Chloe are a perfect match when it comes to mixing business with pleasure.

2 Break Up: Being Of Different Species Means They Can't Be Together Forever

Some things about angels don’t make sense, with it being unclear just how Lucifer and Chloe can be together if he’s celestial and she isn’t. As far as logic dictates, Chloe should one day perish and ascend to Heaven while Lucifer won’t be able to truly be with her.

Ultimately, it may just be the mature thing to do by parting ways before the heartbreak comes, as their status as different species may just be too big of a hurdle for them to clear.

1 Best: They're Meant To Be Together Because They Want To Be

While there are many ways that live-action Lucifer differs from the DC Comics version, the biggest change is the fact that he’s destined to be with Chloe. However, what makes their pairing so perfect is that neither Lucifer nor Chloe has fallen in their romance because of this.

In its place, the two are a couple because they choose to be rather than be puppets to fate. In essence, their decision to be together is what makes the two destined for each other as they are in control of their own thoughts and feelings.
