The story in Octopath Traveler, one of the most popular JRPGs, splits into 8 different characters, each with 4 chapters. Cyrus Albright is a scholar who originated from the Flatlands, and specifically the city of Atlasdam.
As a professor in the Royal Academy, he shares a love for knowledge, and more importantly, a passion for sharing that knowledge with everyone willing to listen. Nevertheless, his extensive and unique storyline, filled with implicit messages and travel banters, includes numerous details about his character's traits which can be easily missed by the player.
10 Name
His name's origin is not difficult to notice, but it could be missed if one is not attentive to detail. His last name, Albright, is the self-evident "all-bright," which builds upon Cyrus's intelligent and always bright character. On the other hand, his first name, Cyrus, is of Persian origin and is a name often given to Persian kings. It roughly translates to "the Sun," which similar to his last name depicts his sharpness and love for knowledge.
9 Age
As revealed by the game's official wiki, Cyrus is the second oldest of the main characters at the age of 30 years old, with the first one being Olberic at 35. Based on that, it is easy to infer that the tome pursued by Cyrus throughout his story, which was lost 15 years ago, was lost when he was only 15 years old. Due to that, he was unaware of the tome's existence, and thus its loss, until he learned about it from Mercedes, the librarian.
8 Job Improvement
Although the story does not tell us much of Cyrus's background, some improvement, primarily in his job is evident. One of his most cherished beliefs is that knowledge is meant to be shared, which is also his main reason for becoming a professor.
His story starts with him teaching only two students, and even being scolded by the headmaster for sharing too much, but ends with him having a class of eight students to whom he teaches the importance of sharing knowledge.
7 Future
At the end of his story, with the Royal Academy's headmaster being no more, Cyrus is shown at the final scene as a tutor free to teach what he likes without being limited by anyone. Although not specified by the story, players have come up with two possible theories: either a new headmaster is assigned in the Academy who shares Cyrus's passion for knowledge, or even better, Cyrus is assigned the new headmaster. There is no direct evidence for any of these theories, but especially the second one would make a fitting end to his story.
6 Sorcerer
Cyrus is perfectly fit for the hidden job of the Sorcerer. His main skills involve elemental damage of fire, ice, and lighting and each deals damage twice. Through the sorcerer class, these skills get an extra buff of casting not twice, but thrice! The damage and the shield breaks can be significantly strong. And if three casts are not enough, Cyrus makes a great combo with another party member who carries the Starseer class, which is ideal for buffing Cyrus's spells by doubling their effects- reaching a total of 6 casts.
5 Novice Dancer
Following Primrose's story, in a travel banter, Cyrus compliments her dancing skills while admitting with sadness that he always wanted to dance, but was unable to due to being clumsy. Even more, his main fear was dancing with a girl and embarrassing her due to him tripping.
Nevertheless, Primrose convinces him that everyone can learn the basic steps of dancing and that she would be willing to give him some advice. This makes Cyrus extremely grateful.
4 Poor Singer
As revealed during a tavern travel banter where Cyrus, Tressa, and Olberic are discussing weaknesses, Cyrus's weak point is singing. Specifically, he mentions that whenever he chooses to sing, people weirdly look at him, while also praising him for choosing to become a scholar and not a bard. Tressa and Olberic invite him to sing something for them, and when Cyrus does so they remain silent in an attempt to not talk about his bad performance.
3 Runelord
If one is not having Tressa in their party, which is considered by many players as the best option for the Runelord class, Cyrus is a solid second choice. The Runelord class gives a character access to multiple elemental spells. With Cyrus being a mage and having the highest elemental attack out of all 8 characters, equipping him with Runelord can lead to significantly high amounts of damage. Due to Sorcerer being considered by many the best option for Cyrus, players often sleep on the potential power of Runelord.
2 Naive
During the first chapter of Cyrus's story, when he is a tutor for Princess Mary and Therese, his attention seems to be on answering Mary's questions. Due to that, Therese gets envious and spreads a false rumor in an attempt to have the professor all for herself. However, when Cyrus learns about the rumor, he believes that Therese did it only because she is dedicated as a student and wants to improve. As the story progresses, it becomes obvious that Therese's motive was having Cyrus all for herself and had nothing to do with her studying.
1 Eloquent
Following up on the previous section, Cyrus's naive character is structured by his overly eloquent attitude. As mentioned by Primrose during a travel banter, Cyrus using multiple flowery words, combined with his charming appearance, can easily give a girl the wrong ideas. And that is something that Cyrus, unintentionally, does often. Many players also believe that it is exactly due to his speech that Therese became envious of Princess Mary and was even attracted to Cyrus during the first chapter.
