Warning! Spoilers ahead for Superman: Red & Blue #4!
In Superman: Red & Blue #4, Superman's most annoying enemy, Mr. Mxzyptlk, reveals his greatest weakness. Superman makes his way to Mxzy's dimension to give him a taste of his own medicine. He goes on a pranking streak, messing with Mxzy at every point throughout his daily routine. He tries to get Mxzy to get him to say his real name backward, which in itself is another prank. This is because Mxzy is unaware of Superman's real name.
Mr. Mxyzptlk has always been a nuisance to Superman. Although he has been depicted as a villain on some occasions, he is more often an irritation. Always trying to trick Superman into saying his name backward in the craziest of ways, everything is a game to him. This is an inherent restriction to Mxzy as a villain as his playful nature prevents him from being taken seriously. After all, he is a fifth-dimensional imp from a dimension where everything is a joke. Arguably, being from the fifth dimension and having little world experience is the main cause of his lack of perspective.
In Superman: Red & Blue #4 by Mark Waid, Audrey Mok, and Jordan Bellaire, Mr. Mxyzptlk displays his greatest weakness. Mxzy is unable to beat Superman as he believes that Superman is always a superhero. He can't fathom the idea of him having a normal life outside of being Superman. It's a fun twist that implies that Mxzy only understands Superman through his superhero persona. He thinks his actual name is Superman and doesn't even consider him being called something else, even after getting the Man of Steel to say Superman backward.
Mxzy is all about having fun and pranking Superman, and other people like him. He could be a much greater villain if he were to dig in deep about what truly matters to Superman. If he were to find out about Clark Kent, Mxy could have a lot of fun with Clark's friends and family. Targetting Superman's loved ones is where Mxzy could become a proper supervillain. However, he will never look at things this way. This means that Mxy will always retain the title of being an irritant to Superman, rather than a villain.
Mr. Mxyzptlk doesn't understand normal life on Earth as he has no interest in it. Therefore, Superman will always have the upper hand over Mxzy. Someone as powerful as Superman is intriguing to Mxzy as he thinks of the ways he can trick him. His vision is restricted to only seeing Superman as a superhero, turning a blind eye to the Clark Kent side of Superman. Even as Superman says his real name backward in front of Mxy to go back to his dimension, Mxzy isn't able to comprehend what he says.
