Teen Titans' Crush Just Had The Worst 'Meet The Parents' Moment

Warning: Spoilers for Crush & Lobo #1 ahead!

No one goes into meeting their significant other's parents without at least a little bit of nervous energy, but in Crush & Lobo #1, the former Teen Titan Crush got blindsided by meeting her girlfriend's parents and made a terrible first impression. After all, nothing says "I'm the perfect match for your daughter" like ruining her birthday.

The ex-Teen Titan recently ditched her team and is now setting off an adventure of her own in the new eight-issue miniseries. But before fans get to see her team up with her dear, old, murderous dad, she's having to face a different set of parental issues. The Crush & Lobo miniseries is the kick-off to DC's sweeping pride event. In this first issue, fans are getting a look at what an unhinged Crush looks like outside of the confines of Teen Titans rules and regulations. Unfortunately, that devil-may-care attitude has already gotten her into some trouble.

In the beginning of the issue, creators Mariko Tamaki, Amancay Nahuelpan, Tamra Bonvillain, and Ariana Maher show Crush doing some alien butt-kicking in an alleyway as she internally monologues about her life and current circumstances. It's during this fourth-wall-breaking internal monologue that she realizes she's late for her girlfriend's birthday party. Crush quickly points out the major differences between her and Katie, mainly that she is normal by every stretch of the word and Crush is, well, not. Katie is a normal human, with a normal life, and normal parents throwing her a normal birthday party. Unfortunately for Crush, she doesn't have the best forethought and didn't think about the fact that said normal girlfriend's normal parents were going to be in attendance at said normal birthday party. That... and she didn't think to sterilize the pink alien goo she'd collected on her person before showing up. That was her main mistake.

So not only was Crush meeting her girlfriend's parents for the first time completely unprepared, but she also managed to bring in an alien substance that made nice with Katie's scented candles in order to create a celebratory cloud of toxic gas. Suffice it to say, ruining their daughter's birthday party was not the best way to make a first impression. Unfortunately, the whole affair seems to have broken her and Katie up. All of this because she decided to ignore the rules of decontamination she'd learned while with the Teen Titans. That and the fact that she just really isn't much of a people person.

There's no doubt that she cares for Katie, but relationships just don't really seem to be her forte, whether it be romantic, friendly, or familial. First impressions also leave something to be desired. Violence and fighting on the other hand? Those are Crush's bread and butter. Don't get her wrong, she's not her father, but there's still no denying she has a lot of deeply repressed issues she probably needs to tackle before Katie and her are really able to give it another go. That journey looks like it's going to include facing her daddy issues head-on. Hopefully, she can figure it all out in the coming issues of Crush & Lobo.
