Fans of Shameless know that the show has interesting characters. Each character has been impacted by a major event that has shaped them into the person they become and each character has flaws that they attempt to overcome over the course of the series. Even though the Gallagher family is full of dynamic characters, there are also supporting characters that are introduced to the show that fans relate to and remember.
Throughout the course of the series, a number of characters enter the Gallagher family's life and change the way the characters behave. These characters either had a positive or negative effect on the family and impact the series as a whole. Many of these characters are introduced after the first season, and help shape the overall story of the struggles in South Side Chicago.
10 Kassidi Gallagher
Kassidi was first introduced in season 8 after Carl lets her live in his basement. She helps him write a ransom note to her family in order to get money, but once Carl gets the money, Kassidi stays. The pair fall in love quickly and get married just before Carl goes to military school.
Kassidi's time on the show may only last a few episodes, but her impact on the show is massive. Some fans believed she added something new to the show that hadn't been seen in a while and could be quite funny at times too. However, it turned out that Kassidi's spell was a short one as she was killed off in season 9.
9 Ford Kellogg
Ford is another character that only lasted a few episodes on the series but had a massive impact. Ford was introduced in season 8 as a carpenter that Fiona hires to help with her apartment complex. Soon, the pair end up in a relationship, but it doesn't last long after Fiona finds out that Ford is actually married (which is one of the reasons why fans rejected them).
Despite their relationship ending on a bad note, Ford did prove to be an integral character as he helped Fiona to discover her independence. Not only did she learn to grow and support herself but Ford's character also taught Fiona how to run her own business, which helped her in the long run as she became an entrepreneur.
8 Gus Pfender
Gus was another love interest of Fiona that spent just a few episodes on the show. Fiona meets Gus in season 5 and the pair get married after only knowing each other for a week. The marriage fell apart quickly after Fiona cheated on Gus and the couple ended up going through a nasty divorce.
Despite being on the show for short time, Gus' impact on Fiona was prominent for the rest of her time on the series. Their broken marriage and prolonged divorce made it difficult for her to move on with any other relationship. He also helped Fiona realize that she deserved better than what Jimmy could offer her.
7 Tami Tamietti
Tami Tamietti was first introduced to fans in season 9 and became one of Lip's best partners. Although she entered the series in the final seasons, her presence still changed the course of the show. If Tami and Lip did not get together, Lip might not have had the chance to be a dad and mature into a more responsible adult. Tami also gave Lip a family to strive for and the ability to work hard to achieve his goals.
6 Sean Pierce
Arguably one of Fiona's greatest lovers on Shameless, Sean Pierce had a major impact on the show. He owned Patsy's Pies (a restaurant Fiona later takes ownership of) and helps Fiona while she was in recovery. The two begin a relationship and get engaged soon afterward.
Sean was a crucial character because he blended in with the Gallagher family and truly seemed to be the perfect partner for Fiona. Sean also made Fiona the owner of Patsy's Pies, which helped her to gain experience to start her own businesses later on. Sean was also a memorable character because he also helped to get Carl back on the right path.
5 Chuckie Slott
Chuckie was introduced alongside his mother in season 4. He goes along with his mom after she decides to go with Frank and he mingles among the younger Gallagher children. Despite not having much dialogue throughout his time on the show, Chuckie does make a drastic change to the series and characters.
This is mainly because the Gallagher family has a love-hate relationship with Chuckie and his mom, and this results in the Gallaghers often leaving Chuckie behind. However, Chuckie's character did have sort of a positive influence on Carl's life as he did inadvertently help him rethink his life choices when he was sent to juvie.
4 Sammi Slott
Sammi is Chuckie's mother and is introduced in season 4 after Frank hunts her down so she can become a potential organ donor for him. Sammi is revealed to be Frank's oldest child from a previous relationship and she quickly shows her Gallagher mentality.
Sammi is problematic and causes a lot of stress for the Gallaghers. She ends up hating Carl for getting Chuckie arrested, she shoots Frank in the arm, and she calls the military police and tells them where Ian is. Despite causing most of the problems for the family, Sammi's antics did keep fans engaged and on the edge of their seats.
3 Sandy Milkovich
Sandy was first introduced in season 10 and is the cousin of Mickey. She is supportive of the relationship between Mickey and Ian, helping with the planning of their wedding and even walking Mickey down the aisle. She also begins a relationship with Debbie.
Sandy's time on the show was short, but she is still one of the more memorable characters to join the cast. Not only did her relationship with Debbie help to shape Debbie's character but her acceptance of Mickey and Ian's relationship also helped Mickey gain confidence in himself.
2 Jody Silverman
Jody was a hilarious character that was introduced to the show in season 2. Although he was initially introduced to make Lip jealous, Jody ended up having a bigger impact on the show once he got into a relationship with Shiela.
Not only did Jody help Lip learn more about himself and his feelings, but his kind and caring nature ended up being a positive influence on other characters. Fans thought he brought a different kind of humor to the show that no one else did.
1 Svetlana Fisher
Svetlana is by far one of the best characters to be introduced after season 1. Making her first appearance in season 4, Svetlana became memorable among fans for her sassy attitude. She offered advice to many Gallagher kids as well as helped further solidify Kevin and Veronica's relationship. Svetlana's wit and dry sense of humor also delighted fans early on, with her character meshing well with all the others.
