Star Wars: Poe Dameron Recruits The Mandalorian For A Mission In Fan Art

Star Wars fan art has reimagined a scene of The Mandalorian's Din Djarin being recruited to pilot by Poe Dameron. Din and Poe have yet to cross over into each other's stories on-screen, as The Mandalorian takes place 5 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, making Poe just seven years old during its events. By the time Poe's story takes place over 20 years later, Din would be much older, but presumably still somewhere in the galaxy. The connection between Din and Poe, however, goes beyond the screen — and even the Star Wars universe itself.

Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac, who play Din and Poe respectively, are real-life best friends. Isaac was the first of the two to appear in the Star Wars universe with his debut in 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, while Pascal stepped into the universe alongside the launch of Disney+ with The Mandalorian series in 2019. Artists have often brought Din and Poe together in light of the actors' friendship, despite their timeline differences. While Pascal and Isaac's Star Wars characters haven't had the chance to team up just yet, the actors were able to work together on Netflix's action heist Triple Frontier in 2019, just a few months before The Mandalorian season 1. It features Isaac as Santiago "Pope" Garcia and Pascal as Francisco "Catfish" Morales, who were just as close on screen as the actors are in real life.

Now, recent fan art by eggdrawsthings on Twitter places Din and Poe directly into a Triple Frontier scene. Pascal and Isaac are seen portraying their Star Wars characters as Poe tries to recruit Din as a pilot. Din replies with uncertainty regarding his "new baby," and a thought bubble shows an adorable image of Grogu saying "buir," the Mando's word for "parent." The context comes from Pope's attempt in Triple Frontier to recruit Catfish for a heist in South America, who offered this response about his off-screen baby. This puts a fun twist on the idea of Poe being the expert pilot, yet asking Din to complete that part of the job himself. Check out the art below:

While their Star Wars time periods may not line up perfectly, it's not impossible for viewers to expect a Din and Poe meeting at some point, whether it be on the screen or in print. Poe's parents were deeply involved in the Rebel Alliance and thus became very close to both Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker, the latter of which is now an acquaintance of Din's. Mutual connections could create for an opportunity for the two characters to meet, whether it be a young Poe in Din's story or an older Din in Poe's story. With so much story left to tell between The Mandalorian and the era of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the option certainly can't be ruled out.

A meeting between Din and Poe is even more likely as The Mandalorian continues to expand. Many have already started to speculate that the series and its spin-offs are setting up for a new shift of focus upon Din and his story, as compared to the completed Skywalker Saga. The recent release and completion of The Book of Boba Fett showed that Din is a character who is well-loved by audiences and has the power to appear in any new Star Wars media (perhaps even as a background character in upcoming series such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, if Din's story allows for it). It's clear that the organic storytelling of The Mandalorian has given the series the chance to make Din's story fresh and interesting, and even fun art like this is an exciting example of how the character can be interwoven into Star Wars entities with other beloved franchise figures for years to come.
